As we’re right in the middle of the holidays, I don’t expect there is a clamor for a newsletter from Delaware Currents. But as I’m winding down, there are some stories (and people) that should be celebrated!
Let’s start with a story about microplastics from freelancer Maddie Lauria: Managing microplastics across the watershed: How water providers are responding to another ‘emerging’ contaminant.
Microplastics are one of the contaminants in our drinking water that folks are really concerned about, so it’s heartening to read that many municipal drinking water suppliers are coming up with ways to get rid of them.
One of the things I have most enjoyed about doing Delaware Currents is how much I have learned and the great, informative people I’ve met along the way.
In the next story we hear from two of those folks: Dan Stich, a professor of biology at SUNY Oneonta (and a shad fan), and Sheila Eyler, from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
With their help, I wrote about a famous fish — shad: Shad in the Delaware face a problematic future.
And last is a video that Preston Ehrler did about Delaware Currents shutting down for BRC News 13, the Blue Ridge TV station out of Lehighton, Pa.
It was fun, and Preston did a great job of making me sound smart! Thanks!
And since both Maddie and Preston are freelancers, this a great place to sing the praises of so many who have given you stories (or photos or videos or an op-ed):
