Summertime and the living is (mostly) easy!!

An uninhabited island in the middle of the Delaware River between Philadelphia and Camden is not home to humans — at least not at the moment — but abounds with other life. Isabella Darcy joined a tour offered by Green Philly, an environmental- and sustainability-focused media company.

“Insects buzzed faintly and soft waves crashed onto the island’s shores,” Isabella writes. Read her story: Once an industrial hub, Petty’s Island is on a path to environmental renewal

In a reassuring sign that the good work of many who care about our environment continues despite the head winds out of Washington, Octavia Feliciano writes: Warren County backs effort to name Paulins Kill a National Wild and Scenic River.

Many of the hardworking environmentalists in our watershed know that the best way to turn people on about the environment is rarely to beat them over the head with (so much) bad news.

The New York Times did a good turn by giving its readers an entertaining read (and quiz!) about deciphering the bug splatter on our windscreens as we take off on long summer drives. It does, of course, mention that bug splatter isn’t what it used to be, thanks largely to human interference with natural processes. But what a clever idea!! (Gift link here.)

Remember that one of the ways to show support for all the work that Delaware Currents is doing is to share our stories. You can find Delaware Currents on Facebook (and like it there) and also check us out on Instagram!

This newsletter is short, and hopefully sweet, reflecting all the vacations people take (and more power to all of them) and, of course, my own little tussle with Covid!

Hope your days — like ours! — are mostly full of good summer fun.
